Four fields that are easy to confuse
Username or handle: the account name used for finding, mentioning, or identifying you. Uniqueness and allowed characters depend on the service.
Display name: the visible label beside posts or an avatar. Several people may be allowed to share it. A nickname may replace it in one community.
Sign-in address: an email address or other identifier used to access the account. Sharing a public gaming name does not require publishing this address.

A concrete Discord example
Discord separates a unique username from a more flexible display name. Usernames use lowercase Latin letters, digits, underscores, and periods; consecutive periods are not allowed. Display names can include spaces and non-Latin characters.

What to enter in a username field
